builds on the foundational sentence elements. Students are varying their writing by creating different sentence structures. They practice creating descriptions that are vivid and specific in detail to engage their readers. As developing writers they learn to use a variety of sources for information and how to credit their sources to avoid plagiarism.<\/p>\n<p>As good readers, students are learning to analyze literature and respond the writer\u2019s techniques to create characters, plots, settings and themes through narratives and poetry. They are also analyzing informational texts and graphical features to interpret author purpose.<\/p>\n<p>The Language Arts program includes opportunities to compare a variety of media for communication, to discuss and present through reading and writing fluency and to cultivate comfort in dramatizing for expression and fluency.<\/p>\n<p>As good writers they are using models to pattern their own writing (Ga. D.O.E.) as they begin to take on their own writing voice and style. By the end of the year, students will understand and use rational numbers and solve linear equations with one variable. Students will also sketch and construct plane figures, demonstrate understanding of transformations, as well as use and apply properties of similarity.<\/p>\n<p>More in depth examination of geometric shapes in space will be explored (including their cross-sections). Students will represent and describe relationships between variables in tables, graphs, and formulas. Students will analyze the characteristics of linear relationships and represent and analyze data using graphical displays including measures of central tendency.<\/p>\n<p>The seventh grade middle school life science course is designed to give students the necessary skills for a smooth transition from elementary life science standards to high school biology standards. The purpose is to give all students an overview of common strands in life science including, but not limited to, diversity of living organisms, structure and function of cells, heredity, ecosystems, and biological evolution. <em>Adapted from the GA DOE Georgia Performance Standards website.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Seventh grade is the second year of a two year World Area Studies course. Seventh grade students study the geography, history, economics, and government of Africa and Asia. The goal of this two year course is to acquaint middle school students with the world in which they live. The geography domain includes both physical and human geography.<\/p>\n<p>The intent of the geography domain is for students to begin to grasp the importance geography plays in their everyday lives. The government\/civics domain focuses on selected types of government found in the various areas in order to help students begin to understand the variety of governments in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The economics domain builds on the K-5 economics; however, the focus shifts from the United States to how other countries answer the basic questions of economics.
